Privacy

The calculator runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you enter is sent anywhere.

Analytics

We use Umami, a cookieless, privacy-preserving analytics tool that records page views without identifying you or tracking you across sites. Google Analytics runs alongside it under Google's consent mode: before you answer the banner it stores nothing on your device, and Google receives only an anonymous, cookieless record of the page view. Accepting lets it store one cookie so a return visit is recognised as the same browser; declining is remembered in your browser's local storage and no cookie is ever set. Advertising and ads-personalisation storage stay switched off whichever you choose.

Location

If you press "Use my location" the browser asks your permission and hands the page your coordinates. They stay in the page. To look up your sky, the page fetches one pre-computed 1° × 1° tile from this site; the request reveals only which degree square you are in, and this site keeps no access log. Nothing is sent to any third party and nothing is stored.

Feedback taps and the tonight planner

The first deliberate change in the integration calculator or tonight planner records a calculator-used event when Umami is available. This event contains only the tool name, with no coordinates or calculation inputs. An initial page load does not count as use. Campaign tags in incoming links are retained so we can see which shared examples bring people to the tools.

If you tap "Spot on", "Needed longer" or "Needed less" on a result, Umami records that tap with the target, telescope and sky class as an anonymous event; nothing identifies you. If you share your location, the site remembers the coordinates in your browser's local storage and shows them in the header on every page, with your estimated Bortle class and the nearest town, so the calculator and the tonight planner can use them without asking again. The town name is matched in your browser against a bundled list (GeoNames, CC BY 4.0); the coordinates are never sent anywhere except as the single sky-tile request described above. The × beside the location in the header forgets it.

Affiliate links

This site sets no cookies of its own. Gear and “where to buy” links go to retailers such as Amazon with an affiliate tag; the retailer sets its own cookies once you are on its site, and we receive a small commission on qualifying purchases and no personal data. Links are marked as affiliate links where they appear.
